About Maldives Dive Guide

Maldives Dive Guide is run by a group of dive professionals based in the Maldives, with extensive experience diving across different atolls and regions.

Information for each area is contributed and verified by local dive guides who regularly dive those sites. This helps ensure the content reflects real conditions and typical dive practices, not promotional descriptions.

The aim of the guide is to help divers understand dive sites before they travel, based on dive conditions, weather, currents, marine life, and skill requirements.

What this guide covers

Maldives Dive Guide is not a booking platform. Dive trips, courses, and accommodation cannot be booked through this site. There are no paid endorsements, rankings, or “best of” lists.

Where possible, the site lists dive centres that regularly visit a dive site. These listings are provided for information only and are not recommendations or a complete list of operators.

Some dive centres work more closely with the project through a paid professional profile service. This allows them to present accurate information about their operations. Participation does not influence dive site descriptions, safety notes, or suitability guidance.

How to use the Guide

The main content of the site is a growing collection of individual dive site pages, organised by atoll and region.

Each dive site page includes:

  • how the dive usually runs

  • typical conditions and seasonality

  • skill and safety considerations

  • marine life highlights

  • nearby or alternative sites

Maps are used to show general location only and are not intended for navigation.

The guide also includes supporting information on weather patterns, seasonal planning, and travel in the Maldives.

Notes and disclaimer

Map locations shown on this site are approximate and must not be used for navigation. All information is provided for planning and reference purposes only.

Diving conditions can change quickly. Divers are responsible for their own safety and should always seek guidance from experienced local dive professionals familiar with the sites they plan to dive.

Dive only within the limits of your certification, skill, and experience. Use professional guides where appropriate, and always dive properly equipped, including carrying and knowing how to use essential safety equipment such as Deployed Surface Marker Buoys (DSMBs).

Responsible diving and codes of conduct

Some dive sites involve encounters with megafauna, such as manta rays, whale sharks, sharks, and turtles. Where relevant, the guide refers to recognised codes of conduct and additional information for these encounters.

Divers are expected to:

  • follow local and international guidelines

  • keep a safe distance from marine life

  • avoid touching, chasing, blocking, or harassing animals

  • maintain good buoyancy to prevent reef damage

Responsible diving protects marine life and helps keep these sites accessible for the future.

Work in progress

Maldives Dive Guide is an ongoing project. Not all dive sites, regions, or dive centres are currently included, and information is being added and updated over time.

If you notice missing or inaccurate information, or if you would like to contribute local knowledge, please get in touch. Feedback from experienced divers and professionals helps improve the guide.
